Year 4 prepare for their first English Speaking Board presentations
22nd April 2016
Speaking and listening is a very important part of the English curriculum. The ability to stand in front of a group of colleagues and present in a confident and articulate manner is a valuable life skill. This week, the children have been choosing poems which they must learn by heart, picking extracts from a well known text to read aloud and deliberating over the choice of an object or picture which holds significant meaning for them. They will prepare a three minute presentation explaining all about the object during their ESB exam.
We have been reading poetry to the children from a wide range of poets to inspire their choices. Mrs Kemp’s class have heard: O Captain! My Captain! By Walt Whitman, Daffodils by William Wordsworth and So We’ll Go No More A-Roving by Lord Byron. This has led to some very interesting discussions about language and vocabulary.
Please support your children at home this week as they learn their poem for presentation to the class.
In Art, the children have loved designing their own ‘Dragon Prowheads’ for a Viking long boat. Their stunning chalk pictures are up in the classrooms and around the school.
