Year 4 research why volcanoes erupt
20th January 2017
This week, Year 4 have continued their work on natural disasters with particular focus on volcanoes. They have researched what volcanoes are, where they are found and why they erupt. The children were fascinated to discover that a volcano is only classed as extinct if it hasn't erupted for over 10,000 years and they found out that Edinburgh castle sits atop an extinct volcano. At home, you could ask them to tell you the difference between a Strombolian, Hawaiian and Plinian eruption and act each one out!
