Year 5 successfully tackle some mathematical problems
16th October 2020

In Maths, children in Year 5 worked in groups to solve multi-step addition and subtraction word problems. The session began by collectively exploring the steps needed to successfully tackle mathematical problems. The children were allowed to choose their own method to calculate answers and their own way to share their understanding. The only stipulation was that they should select the most efficient approach. Children presented their understanding of the problems in a variety of ways including role play, drawing diagrams, number lines and creating bar models. This was a fantastic opportunity to work collaboratively, learn from one another and hone thinking skills.
