Year 5 also turn TOP crazy!
5th March 2018

Year 5 have been learning all sorts of interesting things connected to the painting, ‘An Experiment on a Bird in an Air Pump’. Here are just a few of the things they have been getting up to…
In History, they have been exploring the life and times of the artist, Joseph Wright of Derby. They will be creating a short biography of his ideas and travels.
In MFL lessons, Year 5 have been preparing for individual role-plays. They have been practising how to introduce themselves and talk about some of their family members. Their TOP task is to imagine themselves as one of the characters from the painting and to introduce themselves in French.
In P.E., they went round a ‘respiratory system obstacle course’ set out on the top court, following the path of and learning about the effects on air molecules along the way.
In ICT, they have been introduced to Scratch software and have drawn one of the people in the painting, ready to write coding to take them on a journey.
In English lessons, everyone has been getting rather mechanical, reading and discussing about the workings of air pumps, vacuum cleaners and S-bends on toilets, amongst other inventions of the times.
In Maths the children have been working out volumes of regular objects like the jar on the table in the painting.
