Year 5 - Design & Technology junk modelling challenge
15th January 2021

This week Year 5 have enjoyed completing a junk modelling challenge in their Design and Technology lesson.
They started off by collecting a variety of different materials from their recycling including: plastic bottles, cardboard boxes and plastic lids. They then had to use the junk materials to build a car. The real challenge was to make sure that the car had rotating wheels. To achieve this the children had to make their own axle to attach the wheels to and make sure that they could rotate freely and allow their vehicle to move. The children drew on their knowledge of building a land yacht in the Autumn term to help create their cars.
In school, the critical worker children had lots of fun rummaging through the junk materials in the art room to create their masterpieces which came in many different shapes and sizes!
