Year 5 draw inspiration from Hogarth's caged finch
24th February 2017
In Art this week the children are beginning to understand how artists are able to produce paintings on a large scale starting from smaller sketches. Hogarth’s painting is life-sized and would certainly have started with many preliminary sketches of the family. We have divided the painting into 27ths and each segment has been gridded further to enable them scale up the work for our exhibition. They are using oil pastels to recreate the rich colours used by Hogarth.
In DT the children have used the caged goldfinch from the painting as a stimulus for their own textile bird design, using coloured felts and feathers which will be displayed in a large wire cage.
