Year 5 - may the force be with you
5th May 2017
In Science, this half term we are studying Forces. The children have considered the difference between ‘mass’ and ‘weight’, reflecting on the fact that objects can be weightless in the absence of gravity! We have measured the force of gravity on a variety of objects around the lab, enjoying the use of our Newtonmeters. We are now looking closely at friction, measuring the force on a variety of surfaces and trying to explain why there is a marked difference. In the weeks to come, we will be stretching springs, measuring upthrust, before finally setting up some pulleys and levers to lift heavy loads. Quite a journey - it is certainly true that forces are all around us!
