Year 5 do some problem solving

Year 5 started their week in maths looking at the Maths Word of the Week, which was angles and undertaking some problem solving.

Most of us began with a couple of tasks that were useful for looking at different strategies for problem solving, namely elimination and trial and improvement. We worked on two tasks from Cambridge University based NRICH (http://nrich.maths.org/). One task required the children to work through a number of clues to determine a number and the other involved calculating the number of Zios and Zepts (alien creatures from another planet) from the number of legs that the observer could see.

The children really enjoyed the tasks and worked hard to solve both problems.
