Year 5 - Reviewing and sharing opinions
26th March 2021
Over the term, Year 5 immersed themselves in the inspirational writing of Michael Morpurgo. As well as exploring ‘Kensuke’s Kingdom’ in lessons, the children were challenged to read another novel by the author in their own time. They were captivated by Morpurgo’s powerful and emotive storytelling, and his ability to create such believable characters. The children were given the opportunity to discuss their opinions and feelings towards their chosen novel with each other. What emerged was a shared understanding of Morpurgo’s skill at exploring themes such as our connection with the natural world, the endurance of love and compassion especially during a time of crisis, and the transformative power of shared experience. The children explored how to write a successful book review before completing their own. Every child’s book review will be entered in a competition and they will be in with a chance to win a live virtual event for Gateway School with Michael Morpurgo. Good luck, everyone!
