Year 5 Rugby v Berkhamsted - Friday 25 November

Year 5 Rugby v Berkhamsted - Friday 25 November

Berkhamsted B 10 Gateway A 7

Berkhamsted C 12 Gateway B 7

This was the third match for these two year 5 teams, in as many weeks.

Henry G continues to lead the B team with real conviction and ran in several tries along with Freddie H, Alex H and Sam W. The game was fairly even, at the half way stage, but Berkhamsted were stronger in the tackle and stifled Gateway’s attempts to break through. The second half followed a similar pattern, despite their best efforts to battle for possession. The boys, from both teams were particularly impressed by Matilda, Berkhamsted’s key playmaker, after she ran in 7 tries and set up several more.

The A team played extremely well and, like the B team, have shown considerable improvement in the last few weeks. Their tackling was much stronger and allowed Gateway good possession of the ball. Aidan D, made a huge contribution to the team, despite picking up a dead leg early in the 2nd half, by closing down opponents and making a string of important tackles.
For much of the game both teams looked dangerous in possession. George C, Hugh P, Oscar V-B and Will SC- Burton all scored tries. Berkhamsted were quicker to recycle the ball and move it down their line to outflank Gateway’s defence.
Thanks go to the Berkhamsted staff for refereeing and encouraging both teams, allowing them to learn as they played.

A Squad: Hugh P, Sam B, George C, Toby G-K, Aidan D, Will SC-B, Oliver B, Oscar V-B
B Squad: Freddie H, Harry W, Henry G (Capt) Sam W, Harry C, Harrison J, Alex H
