Year 5 - Show not tell
26th February 2021

This week, the children have been working on their story writing skills. Using the novel, Kensuke's Kingdom by Michael Murpurgo, the children imagined themselves as the main character, Michael, who at the end of chapter 5, spots a tanker on the horizon whilst stranded on a remote island. The task was to focus on the 'show not tell' technique and convey Michael's feelings through a description of his actions. Before commiting thoughts to paper, the children brainstormed ideas and exciting vocabulary to reveal Michael's yearning to be rescued and his feelings of excitement and trepidation.
