Year 5 - the story of the Tortoise and the Hare in Maths
11th March 2016
In Maths this week we have been interpreting line graphs and pie charts. We started the week following on from last weeks theme of traditional stories by using a line graph to tell the story of the Tortoise and the Hare. We added a less traditional rat to the story to extend the task; the children did well interpreting the effect of the rat's journey as the race progressed.
We have concluded the week with interpreting and constructing pie charts. We discussed where pie charts are used in everyday life. If you have time it would be a great opportunity to extend this classroom activity by looking for pie charts in the weekend papers or in magazines such as Car or Top Gear that have lots of comparison articles that often use pie charts.
