Year 6 attend Chesham Arts Festival

On Saturday 3rd February, eleven excited competitors from Gateway attended the speech section of the Chesham Arts Festival. There were thirty-eight entrants in all, so it was going to be a tough competition. The Gateway children, having practised regularly with me during their lunch breaks, all took to the stage with confidence and enthusiasm. There were nerves, certainly, but there was a feeling of real comradery as each one performed and was praised by their teammates. The other schools put forward some excellent orators and we were left with one question - how on earth are the judges going to choose who is the best? We didn’t have to wait too long to find out. Phoebe C took third place, much to our delight. Imagine the thrill when Freddie H took second and Lexie W took first prize! Gateway swept the board! Several of the other Gateway children were awarded ‘Honours’ and all the remainder were given ‘Distinction’. I was so proud of our children and so pleased for them. They all came away feeling on top of the world. Lexie was one of six festival entrants to be awarded a cup and she has been invited to attend the award ceremony at the Elgiva Theatre, where she will perform her poem again and receive the cup. Well done Gateway verse speakers - you were brilliant!
