Year 6 - Edith's Wartime Scrapbook

Wow! What can we say about our Year 6’s performers? Brilliant? Definitely. Talented? Absolutely. Dedicated? Completely. They blew us all away with their fantastic rendition of 'Edith' on Wednesday and Thursday evenings. What was so lovely was that every one of the sixty children had their spot in the limelight and that they worked brilliantly as a team to make the whole production smooth running and entertaining.

This was a moving performance and, as well as the laughter and smiles, many tears were shed by the audience. (And the directors!) It was particularly moving to see the faces of the children’s relatives whilst the children sang, ‘We’ll Meet Again’. Thank you so much to everyone who responded to my request for these. I loved having my father there on the screen and I know the children felt very proud of their great grandparents.

The singing was so strong that the children needed no extra amplification - they just let their voices soar! Their acting showed an emotional maturity beyond their years. As for the dancing, I was really impressed with their mastery of these challenging routines. At one stage I thought, ‘Why have I made these dances so hard? They’ll never manage.’ But, of course, as is typical of these children, they grafted until they could do them brilliantly. Not only did they get the steps right, but they really shone with enjoyment too.

Well done Year 6 - you were a pleasure to work with, and look what our hard work produced! I won’t forget you and I hope you’ll treasure your memories of Gateway and our wonderful production.

Many thanks to all the staff who gave their time to help on the evenings of the production and before. We couldn’t have done it without you!
