Year 6 enjoy trip to see 'Goodnight Mr Tom'

On Thursday 14th, Year 6 had a wonderful afternoon at the Aylesbury Waterside Theatre. We were there to see a production of Michelle Magorian's 'Goodnight Mr Tom', which tells the story of evacuee William Beech and Tom Oakley, the man who offers him a home. The premise of the story is that, for some children, evacuation was actually the best thing that could have happened to them. For the first time in his life, William finds love and security. The two boys, William and his friend Zac, were portrayed brilliantly and the adult cast took on a variety of roles to great effect. Tom's dog was brought to life using clever puppetry. It is a very touching story and many tears were shed, mostly by the teachers! This was a wonderful introduction to the WW2 history topic for Year 6 and I would thoroughly recommend that they watch the John Thaw film now.

During the visit and after, we were complimented on the excellent behaviour of the children. Well done Year 6; you were a pleasure to take out and about.

Thank you so much to Mrs Taylor for arranging the tickets and ice creams for us and to all the accompanying staff. WOH
