Year 6 - hands and the art of storytelling
3rd March 2017
Year 6 have begun preparing some interesting descriptive writing about Hogarth’s painting of The Graham Children. We have looked at the hands in the picture, those of the children and even the cat, balanced on the back of the chair and explored verbs and adjectives to describe them and what they are doing. We have then imagined what the character of each child might be and thought about what they could have been doing before they sat for the portrait and what might happen next!
Each child is producing a short story to include a focus on the hands themselves – in some cases making them the climax of the tale. It is an ambitious project but all the children have risen to the challenge and already produced some wonderful descriptions which you will be able to read when you visit the Take One Picture Exhibition!
