Year 6 Play Script Workshop
11th November 2016
A ‘master class’ was delivered to Year 6, on Friday morning, when Tony McHale, scriptwriter for Holby City, Eastenders and Casualty, came into school. Mr McHale has won a BAFTA for his work and is currently directing a musical and a play. He is also grandfather to Talia F!
Film clips from E.T. and Back To The Future provided excellent examples of how long it takes to produce just a few minutes of action. All the pupils had to produce an idea for a story and develop a main character. They learnt how to take an idea and develop it and how to make us feel some empathy towards their chosen characters. Then, they had to think about how to include action and dialogue in their scene.
Back in the classroom, this week, pupils have written their own scripts. Following our visit to see Around The World In Eight Days, the children have chosen another country in which to set the scene and develop the plot. They will be acting their scenes next week, in English or Drama.
With the autumn colours so beautiful and winter on its way, we have been provided with excellent imagery for their next unit on poetry, also starting next week.
