Year 6 share their advice about Keeping Healthy

The children in Year 6 have enjoyed researching and sharing their ideas about what makes a healthy lifestyle. Having recapped food groups and nutritional information, the pupils looked up the nutritional values of their school snacks and compared these with NHS guidelines for children of their age. This lead to discussion about how to use and interpret guidelines when activity levels are taken into account.

With sporting activities in mind, the children then studied research about energy drinks with particular reference to sugar content, caffeine levels and how these products differ to sports drinks. Nathan concluded that energy drinks have 'minimal nutritional value' due to 'ridiculous amounts of sugar and caffeine' and Will R referred to them as 'the worst offenders on the unhealthy front as they are attracting young consumers at school age'.
