Year 6 study the topic 'Evolution and Inheritance'
27th January 2017
Labrador
+ Poodle
= Labradoodle
In Science, our current topic is Evolution and Inheritance - we started by thinking of features that are either inherited or influenced by the environment. We looked at different breeds of dogs, bearing in mind that their common ancestor is the wolf and have considered cross breeds and the features that may be passed on by the parent dogs. This led us to investigate ‘selective breeding’ and to consider the pros and cons of this process. Having profiled Charles Darwin and Alfred Wallace, we are now moving onto Natural Selection and the ‘survival of the fittest’ as a lead into the reasons for extinctions and the theory of evolution.
