Year 6 tackle some algebraic problem solving
20th January 2017
Whilst many of Year 6 went to the O2 on Wednesday those that remained at school began their non-musical lesson with Maths. With Mrs Rowe and Mrs Barrett the children enjoyed tackling some algebraic problem solving before playing a very competitive game of 'Nasty'. This is a strategy game designed to reinforce the concepts related to place value and size of number. As a twist on the game the children were allowed to use Prime Number substitution, which created much discussion as to whether or not 1 is a prime number - it is not - and the rules for deciding if a number is Prime. For those that may not remember, Prime Numbers have only two factors, which must be different; one and themselves.
