Year 6s have returned from their fantastic week in France having gained so much in terms of personal growth and organisation. In fact, most of them seem to have magically matured an extra 6 months! They all encountered all sorts of new experiences: they all took on the fun, challenging sports and activities at the lovely Château du Broutel (often, but not always, with success); they learned so much on the various excursions about history, geography culture and language; they supported each other, developing independence, resilience and further friendships.
The children have come back in high spirits, ready (as a group) to support each other in rehearsals for their marvellous end of year production. In between rehearsals, they will all be recording and recounting their exploits by creating a personal scrapbook to capture those fond memories from France for posterity.
The Gateway teachers on the trip (Mr Judge, Mr Atkinson, Ms Lawrance, Mrs Gauntlett, Mrs Hyde and myself) were all very pleased and impressed by the overall behaviour and attitude of the Year 6 group whilst we were away. Pleasingly, there were also a number of complimentary comments regarding the children from other people, whom we encountered whilst away. Our excellent coach driver praised them directly for their politeness and respect. I also received a lovely email from Monsieur Bults, the château director, the other day, which included the following message:
… “We thank you for your positive overall feedback, it’s really good to see it has been a very successful trip for you and your students. From our point of view we can add that it has been a pleasure to have you as our guests. The behaviour of your students has been exemplary; they are a credit to you and your school!"
Well done Year 6 - As well as having a wonderful week in France, you did yourselves proud! Bravo!
