Years 4, 5 and 6 perform at 'Let the Chilterns Sing' concert

Last Saturday evening, members of Gateway School Chamber Choir sang their hearts out at the Wendover 'Let the Chilterns Sing' concert at St Mary's Church. The choir were invited by the Rotary Club of Wendover and District to take part in the concert to commemorate World War I. The concert was organised to raise money for Wheel Power and SSAFA. Also performing were the band of the RAF Regiment and the Military Wives Choir, Halton. The evening began with nostalgic pieces from the First World War played by the band, followed by the Chamber Choir who sang Hallelujah by Leonard Cohen and a medley of popular songs from World War I. A special mention must go to Daisy and Jack W for their confident solo performances in 'If you were the only girl in the world'.The choir were then joined by the Military Wives Choir, Halton to sing 'We'll meet again', made famous by Vera Lynn. After further performances by the Military Wives Choir and the RAF Regiment Band, both choirs, band and audience came together for a 'Last Night of the Proms' finale, complete with Union flags, including 'Land of Hope and Glory', Jerusalem and 'Rule Britannia' with a guest soloist - Mrs Izard! The children were well supported by a very enthusiastic friends and family members who thoroughly enjoyed the evening's entertainment.
