Mrs Kemp's blog - Celebrating Children's Achievements
9th March 2018
Here at Gateway, we aim to develop independent motivated learners and a key part of this is through celebrating children’s individual achievements. We believe it is vital for children to understand what they need to do in order to take their next steps in learning. Equally importantly, when children strive to achieve their best it is essential to recognise and celebrate this in order to reinforce good work habits and develop high self-esteem.
Our ‘My Best’ initiative was set up to celebrate each child’s effort and next step on their learning journey. When a child is nominated for ‘My Best’, the teacher provides positive reinforcement, helping children build their confidence. The certificate is awarded in assembly, providing recognition in front of the whole school, further strengthening confidence and self-esteem. When a child is awarded a ‘My Best’ certificate it is delightful to see the joy on their faces.
These achievements are highly meaningful and are recorded in each child’s ‘My Best’ folder which remains with them throughout their school career, enabling them to look back and remind themselves of their achievements, as well as to see the progress they have made. The children delight in showing their work to their friends and parents, so we hope you enjoy seeing their work at the upcoming parents’ evenings.
Have a lovely weekend.
