I am writing this with the sound of the Senior Choir singing ‘We are the Champions’ still ringing in my ears! This was the finale piece at our Summer Concert on Thursday evening. Over 60 children performed in a varied programme to a packed hall of proud parents. They were amazing! From the beginner violin group with confident performers from Year 2, ensemble groups and our orchestra, with a range of different instruments being played, up to our talented Chamber and Senior Choirs. Mrs Izard, once again, enabled our talented pupils to shine. I hope the senior schools realise the musical expertise of the pupils they will receive next year.
Our Junior Sports Day was enjoyed by the pupils and parents on Tuesday morning. It was nearly a cancelled event, but the quick thinking PE staff, led by Mr Butler, made some necessary adjustments and the younger pupils had the opportunity to be champions. We watched many excellent examples of technique, determination, sportsmanship and resilience - all the skills we support Gateway pupils to develop over their years here. Our Year 6 pupils were also put to work helping with the activities and encouraging the younger pupils to persevere and do their best. This was lovely to see and the older pupils were a great inspiration to the younger pupils.
We are looking forward to a change of venue and format for our Year 3 - 6 sports day today. The sports team have worked very hard to plan and organise this event and I am excited to watch the new style afternoon unfold. The events have been selected to enable the children to showcase their skills on both track and field.
My thanks to all my specialist teams who really do go that extra mile to ensure pupils at Gateway enjoy a rich and stimulating curriculum. They set very high standards and the children are well supported to enable them to achieve great things in all these areas. They really are encouraged to be champions!
I hope everyone enjoys a restful weekend after the busy and successful Summer Fair last weekend. This was a great team effort and all year groups added something to the mix of activities on offer. The FOG team worked tirelessly to bring the day together and it was a great success. Our thanks to them and to all the parents who supported this event and helped to raise over £3,000.
