Mrs La Farge's Blog

Luckily our cold snap this week was short lived and, although some staff and parents took a long time to get to school, we saw most people on Tuesday. I am very grateful to all the staff whose help shovelling snow first thing in the morning made the site safe for the children. Many pupils enjoyed some safe snow play during the day!

By Wednesday it was as if the snow had never been here and Year 3 enjoyed a cold but educational day at Windsor Castle. This trip really brings their castles topic to life and they impressed the guides with their knowledge.

Congratulations to our runners at the Buckinghamshire Schools’ Cross Country event. They battled through rather muddy and cold conditions to go on and achieve an individual gold and silver medal and the boys team came third. A marvellous achievement given the relative size of our school! Well done to Mr Judge and all the PE staff who help to train these runners in all weathers and to our parents who turn out in all weathers to support Gateway’s team. Well done also to our team who participated in the KS2 General Knowledge Quiz last Friday.

This weekend seven Year 5 pupils will represent the school at the Chesham Arts Festival. This is the first time we have entered dramatic pieces into this festival. My thanks to Mrs O'Hare for preparing the pupils so thoroughly and I am sure they will do very well and, most importantly, will enjoy the experience. Mrs Izard has also been busy preparing some of the Senior Choir to perform pieces at this festival on Monday 16 February. From previous experience, I am sure they will give their usual energetic performance and will quickly win the support of their audience.

In future, parents wishing to request leave of absence for holiday should complete a form which can be found on our school website under the Parent Area tab on the homepage. If you have difficulty locating the form, please let the school office know and they will be able to assist you.

Sadly, our run of staff and pupil illness has continued this week. I hope that we can all enjoy a healthy and warm weekend.
