Mrs La Farge's blog

It was lovely to see so many children wearing their silly socks and ties and walking to school for Walk to School Week. I hope that you will continue to walk now that the weather is becoming warmer. In the classroom this week pupils have completed their exciting work on our Take One Picture inspired activities. I do hope that you have been able to drop in to see our wonderful exhibition in the hall - our own mini Kew Gardens! The inspection team enjoyed watching lessons last week which were inspired by Marianne North's life and work and the resulting quality and range of work is truly stunning. Gateway parents are very welcome to drop in to the hall tomorrow morning between 9.30 am and 10.30 am to view the exhibition if you were unable to see it today.

Pupils and staff impressed the inspectors last week, and they really enjoyed their days with us. They gave oral feedback to the senior leadership team last Friday and we are now awaiting the draft report. As soon as it is finalised all parents will be emailed a copy.

Last Saturday the school was full of pupils from other schools who attended the National Primary Schools Chess Competition. Gateway entered two teams and all the pupils did their best against some very impressive competition. Meanwhile 57 pupils from Year 3  and 6 were competing in the cross country race at Lowndes Park. Various sporting matches have been played this week and details of all the results are shown below.

I am sure that many pupils and parents will be sad to hear that Mrs Dalby-Smith has decided to leave full time Gateway teaching this July. Elizabeth is looking forward to spending more time with her husband, who is already retired, and their two kittens! She has agreed to help us out with cover for absent staff and I am sure we will keep in touch.  We have received many applications for this vacancy and senior staff have been involved this week interviewing and observing lessons taught by the shortlisted candidates.

My thanks to the Year 6 and Year 5 pupils who have agreed to give up,their Saturday morning to show prospective parents around Gateway School. Visiting parents are always very impressed with the honesty and enthusiasm that they portray.

I hope you all enjoy a lovely weekend. Good luck to all those running in the Norfolk House Cross Country Championships in Hatfield today, and I hope to see many of you at the Take One Picture exhibition.
