What a fabulous end to this first term of the academic year - so many events and celebrations to cap several months of learning and challenge across the school. At this time of year, it is even more apparent what a special family we have at Gateway.
The children have all impressed us in their various Christmas productions over the last few weeks. It is so lovely to see them all with parts to perform, working so successfully and confidently as a year group to delight their parents and visitors. The Year 5 and 6 pupils excelled themselves by delivering a truly magical Christmas Concert at the packed St Peter & St Paul Church on Tuesday evening. My thanks to all of the teaching teams, and the Music and Drama teachers, who worked so hard to get these excellent productions to the stage. A great team effort which provided a lovely start to our Christmas celebrations.
This first term has seen many great achievements, both individually for the children and collectively as a school. Our Key Stage 2 pupils have been involved in many sporting fixtures and events both locally and nationally, resulting in 100% participation for many year groups. Over 50 pupils have entertained us at two Music Teas, providing the opportunity for many emerging musicians to play their first public performance and the more experienced performers to enjoy an opportunity to perform and the chance to inspire others.
The Friends of Gateway team, helped by many parent volunteers, have also been busy this term organising some super events for the children to enjoy. The Christmas Fair and Disco were both great successes and thoroughly enjoyed by the children as well as raising around £4,500, and today we have raised over £200 for Save the Children by wearing our colourful Christmas jumpers.
Mr Grosse and the elected School Council reps have had a busy time, not only organising our Children in Need activity afternoon but also democratically agreeing our two charities for the year, Diabetes UK and Dogs Trust.
It has been a fantastic first term with events, celebrations, fixtures and performances on every week, not forgetting all the inspirational lessons that have been delivered across the school every day. I would like to thank all the staff for their tireless enthusiasm and continued commitment to providing an outstanding educational experience for all the pupils here. I think after such a great term all the pupils and hard working staff are ready for a holiday! Please join me in wishing Miss Jackson all the very best as she will be getting married during the Christmas holidays. When we return after the break, Miss Jackson will continue to use her name for the rest of the academic year. Finally, on behalf of all the staff at Gateway School I wish all our families a wonderful festive season and a happy new year.
