What a fantastic week to return to school! It has been lovely to welcome all the pupils back and to hear stories of their holiday trips and adventures.
We have already been busy on the sports field. I must thank Mr Judge for his brilliant organisation of the Gateway annual Football Festival for Year 4 teams. Many local schools took part and the boys played really well. Year 3 pupils will have their chance next week. Gateway Year 5 team also played in a nail biting semi final against Chartridge School which went to penalties, sadly not in our favour but everyone demonstrated a great team spirit.
Mr Grosse has set the Year 6 classes an election challenge! Each Year 6 form are vying for the chance to spend a promised £300, which will be used to develop or improve life at school. The children will develop their own election manifesto and then deliver their ideas convincingly to the electorate (the rest of the school) in assemblies on May 7th. The next morning, all the pupils will have the chance to vote for their favourite ideas and the form with the majority of votes will be awarded the money to spend. A taste of democracy in action at Gateway!
Year 5, Year 4 and half of Year 1 have a trip or visit organised for next week which will help to kick start topics that they are studying this term. Learning away from the classroom is an important part of our curriculum here and I am sure that the pupils will really benefit from these events.
I hope everyone has a lovely weekend, and can enjoy the sunshine.
