I write this at the end of another ‘normal’ week! The most exciting thing is that we have successfully had year groups of children onsite for the first time in a long time. After the weeks of planning and working out the logistics of how we might manage this next change, it was lovely to welcome back Preschool, Reception, Year 1 and Year 6 children. The children have been amazing! Settling quickly into their new routines and being very sensible about distancing and paying close attention to their personal handwashing and gelling; they have all impressed us. Although I am not allowed into their pods, I can see them all outside and from the doorways and greet them in the morning. But the best thing is that I hear them laughing and having fun with their friends and I begin to hope that we might be moving towards a new normal that is more acceptable to all of us.
For those year groups learning at home I know that they have started exciting new projects this week and that they are also using this time to investigate and explore new areas of interest and their own project ideas. Please see the posts below which just highlight the variety and the richness of the learning going on at home.
The Gateway staff have once again proved just what a talented and flexible bunch they are. Supporting us by helping to set up the classrooms appropriately to safely welcome back children and staff, teaching in different year groups or different subjects, calmly guiding the children through their new routines and ensuring they have all enjoyed being back at school. The staff not in school with us are continuing to make the online experience as successful and effective as they can for all the children working from home.
I would also like to thank all the parents for their support for the many new arrangements we have had to introduce this week to protect both the children and staff at school and we have really appreciated the many positive comments - it really does help boost morale.
