I hope everyone enjoyed some time away from school to recharge the batteries ready for the busy half term ahead. The first week back has already included some excellent examples of our broad and exciting curriculum.
Year 6 have had a great week. On Monday they were fortunate to hear about modern day Crime and Punishment from Ms Grief, a barrister and a parent at the school, organised for them by Ms Atkins. Then they have all enjoyed a half days vital First Aid Training delivered by IMPS trainers, planned and booked by the nurses here. The pupils have all impressed our visitors with their engagement and their interest in the topics. Year 5 have enjoyed a day in Oxford at the Story and Pitt-Rivers Museums, a first for a Gateway trip, and one that we will definitely be repeating. The museums supported the work that the children have been doing in English lessons on stories from other cultures.
The younger years have all been settling back into their lessons and school activities and they have enjoyed starting new topics. Year 1 have been lucky enough to meet two hearing dog puppies kindly brought in by Mrs Press to reinforce their Science topic all about hearing. I hope you enjoy reading the write ups from each year group.
The Art department have made use of all their art lessons this week to run a House Art Competition for us. The children have created some fantastic work, which will be judged at the end of the week and tokens awarded for their houses. We will also ensure we share the winning pictures via our Facebook page and Twitter. I hope that many of you are enjoying following us in this way.
Another exciting change for the start of this half term is the new interactive screen in the Hall. It is amazing! It is an 80 inch touch screen, with impressive HD quality. This allows the children to see good quality presentations from anywhere in the hall, it has already been used in assemblies, in PE lessons, in Singing assemblies and will allow us to present more effectively at various information evenings. Thank you to FOG and the generosity of the Gateway parent body for raising the money to enable this improvement to our hall.
