Last week ended with a successful flurry! Mr Bridges had predicted that our two Science teams competing in the National Science Quiz competition would do well and he was spot on! Gateway secured first and third place after an exciting competition. The winning team will go on to compete in the next round on Monday 7 December. My thanks to Mr Bridges for his work to prepare the teams so thoroughly and to their parents for their support.
On Saturday evening I proudly watched the Chamber Choir impress the packed church at the Wendover Remembers Concert. It was a great opportunity for these pupils to hear a professional military band play and the Military Wives Choir, Halton sing. We were all also impressed to hear our own resident soprano, Mrs Izard, sing a solo! My thanks to Mrs Izard for preparing our pupils so effectively.
It was lovely to see many of you at our Parents Evenings this week. There is an additional evening on Monday for Senior teachers as their appointments cannot be fitted into two evenings. The teachers have an impressive knowledge of each and every individual child in their classes and are all very passionate about ensuring they are all supported in their learning. I hope that you found the feedback useful.
Many families have kindly donated items, created items and bought raffle tickets for the Christmas Fair this Saturday. My thanks to all the FOG reps who are working hard to ensure this is a great event. I look forward to seeing many of the children and yourselves there. Half of all the money raised this academic year will be donated to a very vital small local charity - Aylesbury Homeless Action. We have arranged for them to come in and speak to all the pupils in an assembly after Christmas to explain the important work this charity does.
The whole school joined together this morning to celebrate the end of the 'Movember' season. Mr Atkinson explained why we were supporting this initiative and the pupils were thrilled to try and recognise the moustaches of individual staff and witness the live shave of his moustache! We would gratefully receive any further donations to this charity on Monday if your child had forgotten their donation today.
The Christmas play season is nearly upon us. A massive thanks to all parents for organising suitable outfits for the plays coming up. From the rehearsals I have heard around the school we are all in for a treat.
Don't forget that the Spring term Clubs will be open on Monday at 7am. Please encourage your child to sign up to the wide variety of clubs on offer.
Wishing you all a lovely weekend.
Mrs La Farge
