Dear Parents

What a fantastic array of traditional tale characters you have sent in to school today! The book swap has been a great new initiative and I hope that this will encourage all the children to read widely. It is always good to get a recommendation from a friend so hopefully this will help our reluctant readers to get started. Chip, our favourite storyteller, visited all the children in the school and once again had them spell bound with his aural tales. My thanks to Mrs Goodchild and Mrs Kemp for organising the day for us.

As I have walked around the classrooms this week I have seen such a variety of creative lessons based around Roelandt Savery's Orpheus. Please do ask your children what they have learnt about the picture and I am sure you will be amazed at the wealth of history, zoology, physics, Greek and other subjects they may have covered. Next week we will be busy finalising the work and getting all the display work ready to astound you all next Friday.

There have been sporting fixtures every day after school this week, not to mention a football tournament and netball tournament today, and many more events scheduled in for the next few weeks. The lighter evenings make such a difference to the events that can be organised, luckily we are now out of the black weeks of November to end of February, and Mr Clark and his team have worked hard to cram as many fixtures in as possible. I am looking forward to seeing the Year 6 girls in action on Saturday at the Kings Mead tournament.

Gateway School is once again hosting the EPSCA Chess Tournament on Saturday. Mr Sonley's team have been well prepared to face opposition from 3 visiting schools. I am sure they will play some great chess and will all enjoy the experience.

I hope that the weather will be kind to us for our Walk to School Week next week. Please allow sufficient time to park in the Link Road Car Park and to walk up to school. The walking children will all help towards their house totals. This is still a close run competition so every little helps.

Kind regards

Sue La Farge
