Dear Parents

School Council and Mr Atkinson should be thanked for their very creative ideas to make Red Nose Day 2017 memorable for the children. There has obviously been stiff competition choosing the best jokes in each class and we all enjoyed a very entertaining assembly this morning. The many and varied efforts with our crazy hair has also added to everyone’s enjoyment. Our thanks to all the parents for supporting this event.

Our talented Year 1 and 2 classes entertained their parents on Tuesday afternoon with a summary of their terms. The most pleasing part for me was the confidence with which they delivered their lines and their obvious enjoyment and pride in all they have been learning this term. A particular highlight was the stunning Indian dancing performed by the Year 2 children. There are some lovely little movers in that year group!

The Reception team shared an Alphabet of Achievements and Learning from our Reception classes, including an impressive display of yoga and gymnastic moves, a song and some French singing. Obviously, a very busy term for our Reception pupils.

The Chamber Choir had a fantastic day last Friday. They performed brilliantly at the National Choir Competition held at the impressive Royal Festival Hall. They held their own against many larger choirs and we were all very proud of their achievement.

It was lovely to see many of you at our parent consultation evenings this week. For the first time the specialist teachers were available to meet with the Year 4, 5 and 6 parents. They did not have as many visitors as we had hoped but I think it is important to provide an opportunity for parents to speak to the teachers about non-core subjects, as these are such an important part of our offering at Gateway School.

The sports teams have been busy again this week. Today and tomorrow see Gateway travelling to the Midlands for two Independent Schools National Finals in Football and Netball. A fantastic achievement and my thanks to the staff who have helped them to achieve these results and to the parents who spend many hours transporting and supporting their talented children. I am sure our teams will give their very best and I look forward to sharing the results next week.

Just a reminder that we break for Easter next Thursday at the end of the school day. There will be NO clubs or care available that night.
