Dear Parents

This week all our hardworking Year 6 pupils have taken their SATs exams. These have all been taken in their stride and they have been well prepared so the tests did not throw up any surprises for them or us. We expect to get their results back just before we break for the summer, and I am sure that they will all have done their very best.

To warm up for their SATs tests, two teams of talented Year 6 (and one Year 5) mathematicians took part in a local Maths Quiz at Gayhurst School. Both teams were able to compete and our A Team finished in third place with a very high score. Well done to all the boys who were involved, and my thanks to Mrs Rowe for preparing them for this competition. Please see the write up below. Continuing our celebration of all things mathematical, on Wednesday next week, our Year 6 pupils are going to support our Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 pupils in a practical Maths Challenge session which Mrs Rowe, Subject Leader for Maths, has organised for us. This will be a great opportunity for our older pupils to share their understanding and love of Maths with our younger pupils and I am sure they will all love learning from each other.

Judo is one of our very popular clubs and has been run at Gateway for many years. This term 51 pupils attend the club and we have some very talented attendees. Last weekend four pupils entered the Independent Schools Association Judo competition held at Caterham . This is the first time Gateway pupils have taken part in this competition and all of our pupils came away with medals!

Thank you to all the parents who attended the Sex and Relationships Education and then the Drugs Awareness talk last night. At Gateway we follow a very comprehensive and well respected Personal, Social and Health Education programme which is taught from Reception to Year 6 by their class teachers and covers many very important topics which help prepare our pupils to mature into well informed, confident and self aware individuals. If you would like to know more about this programme please feel free to contact Mr Atkinson at

Thirty-two pupils from Years 4 to 6 are in Bedford today, taking part in the ISA London North Athletics Championships. I am sure they will all have a great day and be fantastic representatives of the school - we are all looking forward to finding out how they got on.

I hope Gateway families are enjoying the live feed from our school bird box. The hatchlings are growing quickly and are becoming more adventurous. If you want to follow their progress the link is

I look forward to seeing many of you at the Summer Ball on Saturday night. The FOG committee, led by Mrs Grant, have worked very hard to plan a fantastic evening for us and I am sure it will be lots of fun.
