It has been a really quiet week at school without all the Year 6 pupils. They have been enjoying a fantastic week in Northern France enjoying a variety of cultural and adventurous activities, and learning to live independently of family support! They are due back at 7pm this evening so a full report will appear next week.
Mrs Rowe (Subject Leader for Maths) and I enjoyed looking at all the entries for our House Maths Competition which closed just before half term. The brief was simple - using colour, show exactly one half of an A4 piece of paper - and the very creative Gateway pupils certainly showed an impressive range of interpretations of this challenge. The best entries are displayed by the photocopier in the house. Mrs Rowe is now planning the next mathematical challenge for us all.
Year 3 and 4 pupils also had lots of mathematical challenge on Wednesday and Thursday afternoon this week. Mrs Rowe set up various problem solving activities around the school hall and the pupils worked in small groups to try to solve as many challenges as they could in the time given. We were all impressed with the great teamwork displayed by the children and their resilience and determination to crack the problems. They not only needed to use many mathematical skills but also had to use reasoning and logic to be successful. A great mathematical afternoon which has helped to combine lots of fun and lots of challenge. My thanks to Mrs Rowe for the idea and organisation and the Year 3 and 4 teachers for their support and enthusiasm for the event.
Sixteen children from Years 4 and 5 did a great job representing the school at the Stoke Mandeville Athletics Festival on Tuesday. A great day was had by all and all the children gave 100% to their events and we brought home an impressive collection of medals. Well done to them all!
I hope the Summer returns for the weekend and everyone enjoys a rest.
