This week has been National School Sports Week and Gateway pupils have certainly enjoyed some fantastic events.
Our younger pupils enjoyed a new format for their sports event which ensured that all the pupils were kept active all the time and had the opportunity to take part in several different activities showcasing the many skills they have been improving all year. It was a great event, masterminded by Mr Clark and brilliantly organised and run by the PE department. Our Year 6 pupils were also put to work helping with the activities and encouraging the younger pupils to persevere and do their best. This was lovely to see and the older pupils were a great inspiration to the younger pupils.
On Thursday we all enjoyed the annual Swimming Galas for Year 4, 5 and 6. There was some excellent swimming from all the pupils, with some very well matched races and exciting finishes. The best thing was watching them all encouraging each other and being delighted by others successes demonstrating great sportsmanship.
Today is the turn of the Year 3 - 6 pupils to enjoy their Sports Event being held at the Misbourne School. The sports team were here late again last night organising all the kit to go down so that the children are able to showcase their talents in another range of sporting activities. I look forward to seeing many parents there.
The Music team, led by Mrs Izard, organised a fantastic Summer Concert for us on Tuesday evening. Over 60 children took part, performing to a packed school hall, playing a range of instruments and singing in three choirs. It is so important to give these musical pupils the opportunity to perform as it helps build their confidence and also inspires the pupils to keep practicing to be performance ready! We were also treated to a performance from the Staff Choir - the children love to see their teachers performing for them and once again they didn’t disappoint.
My thanks to all my specialist teams who really do go that extra mile to ensure the Gateway children enjoy a rich and stimulating curriculum. They set very high standards and the children are well supported to enable them to achieve great things in all these areas. We've also have news about the winners of our House Chess tournament which you can read about below.
I hope everyone enjoys a restful weekend after the busy and successful Summer Fair last weekend. This was a great team effort and all year groups added something to the mix of activities on offer. Mrs Grant and the FOG reps had worked tirelessly to bring the day together and it was a great success. Thank you to all the parents who supported with this event.
