Another busy week is drawing to a close as we head towards the last three weeks of term and the countdown to Christmas.
Congratulations to the two teams of children who took part in the National Science Quiz at Chesham Prep School on Tuesday afternoon. Each year, this quiz engages, motivates and inspires Years 5 and 6 children, encouraging them to explore science in a fascinating and and educational way. The Championship reinforces teamwork, boosts confidence and encourages strategic thinking. Our teams performed extremely well, and did us proud, coming second and fifth.
This week has been an exceptionally busy one for our dedicated team of teaching staff. Many have been involved in parents meetings, and those who haven’t have covered clubs and duties, demonstrating support for their colleagues. On Tuesday evening I was taken out of my music department ‘bubble’ and for forty five minutes entered the world of ‘Lego Quest’, a club for Reception to Year 2, which I likened to Channel 4’s ‘Lego Masters’! A far cry from my usual recorder clubs and choirs, the challenge for club members was to create an animal out of Lego and take a photograph of it by the end of the session. I was so impressed by the excitement, camaraderie, energy levels and the results, and it highlighted to me what a wonderful range of activities are on offer to the children here. I’m looking forward to taking Film Club on Friday evening!
The parents meetings on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings provided a perfect opportunity for many of you to meet face to face with your children’s teachers to discuss their progress and be given advice and guidance on areas of the curriculum such as Maths and English. At Gateway, we really understand the importance of working in partnership with parents. There’s plenty of evidence to suggest that good communications between parents and teachers leads to a positive impact on the social, emotional and cognitive performance of a child and we try extremely hard to keep parents up to speed with how and what the children are learning as well as the progress they are making.
Have a great weekend.
