Admissions Process

We believe that Gateway School is a great place to be. We would love to help your children learn.

Gateway is a non-selective school and welcomes all children whatever their abilities and backgrounds. There are three main points of entry into the school.

Parents and children are encouraged to visit the school at least once before their child starts at Gateway so that the whole family is familiar with the school and staff, and the child feels relaxed and comfortable from the beginning of their first term. Visits include:

  • A look around the school by parents and child on a Gateway Open Day or a personal tour of Gateway by parents and child with Mrs Bufton-Green, Head Teacher (click here for information about how you can visit)
  • A Taster Day: After registering, all pupils from Year 1 and above are invited into school for a Taster Day. The children spend a day in an appropriate class and get involved in everything the class are doing, including some English and Maths work
  • A New Parent Meeting in June
  • A Transition Day: All pupils who are due to join us in September are invited to spend the day in school at the end of the Summer term. This allows them to meet their peers and all the other new pupils

Registration process

Once parents are interested in a place at Gateway, they need to complete a Registration Form(also available from the school office). This process costs £50 and is non-refundable. Following the Taster Day, a formal offer of a place is made and parents pay a deposit of £600, which is non-refundable if your child does not take up the place. This deposit will be credited back to you when your child leaves Gateway.

This typically is done a year prior to the child starting at Gateway, but can be done earlier or later. We advise parents not to leave it too late to pay their deposit since our ‘first come first served’ policy means we cannot guarantee places to later applicants.
